Prize for the rehabilitation of the Can Batlló old factory that hosts the EMAV

The School of Audiovisual Media has received the Bonaplata prize for the rehabilitation of industrial heritage granted by the Association Museum of Science and Technology and Industrial Archeology of Catalonia (AMCTAIC), in the category of real estate. The new EMAV, in the old Block 7 of the Can Batlló industrial precinct, has entered into operation this year in a space of 5,500 m2 and after a municipal investment of 12,900,000 euros.

The award recognizes the work of all the technical team involved in the recovery of the old Block 7 of Can Batlló, especially of the municipal architect Josep Maria Julià i Capdevila. His project has sought to preserve and emphasize the characteristic features of industrial architecture, while maintaining historical and architectural values and enhancing the original elements of the facade.

The EMAV is a municipal educational center dedicated to educational cycles in audiovisuals born in 1970 and managed by the Barcelona Education Consortium. This academic year 2019-2020 has been moved to the former Block 7 of Can Batlló, the object of the award-winning rehabilitation, which is thus set up as a city equipment and for neighborhood uses in the district of La Bordeta. The rehabilitation, of 5,500 square meters, gives the EMAV a capacity for 600 students.

The project also included the recovery of the canteen of the old factory, which will be operational in early 2020, managed by the Can Batlló Neighborhood Association after winning a public tender.
